A joint submission for the re-development of 76 Marine Parade
Located on the corner of Marine Parade and Seaview Street in Kingscliff, NSW, this project offered a unique opportunity for the re-development of a corner block with both retail frontage and beach side proximity. It was undertaken in collaboration with Justin Twohill from Büro Two.
As a key site in the commercial precinct of Kingscliff it was critical that the building respond to its location; as such it is designed to both refer to the feature fig tree adjacent its address and act as an obvious extension to the existing retail precinct.
Spatially, a combination of food and retail services inhabit the immediate street frontage while commercial facilities are housed on the upper level. A large recess cut into the front of the building creates a protected ‘arcade’ offering the flanking cafes and restaurants protection from harsh sun and wind typically of a beach side location.
The scale of the building is intended to be respectful of the adjoining streetscape while a continuation of the street awning promotes a visual connection to the existing northern and southern precincts.
