Inner city apartment living in St Lucia, Brisbane
This project involved the design and construction of a new apartment building in the university suburb of St. Lucia in Brisbane, on a site with a stunning view over a larger suburban park to the city beyond. The building form was created to reduce visual mass through clear divisions, allowing a more appropriately and residentially scaled building to be inserted into the historically lower-density scaled urban fabric of the suburb. A large and clear external entrance draws residents and visitors deeps into the building through a landscaped courtyard- which encourages vertical common circulation- before entering the hallways and apartments that compose the multi-residential construction. Vertical screens create links between the building’s two halves, whilst providing a measure of architectural privacy for each apartment and allowing dual access and appreciation of the site’s views. Plentiful green spaces throughout the building also encourage colour and a link to nature in a manner often looked over in such a large city.
