The renovation and extension of a traditional Queenslander
Roseby house involved renovations to a traditional Queenslander located in the inner city suburb of Clayfield. The existing house was raised and renovated to accommodate bedrooms and family living upstairs while new space built under and to the rear of the existing house provides communal living and protected outdoor space that relate to the landscaped yard and swimming pool. This spatial arrangement reinforces a strong connection to the broader environment and provides the opportunity for passive design considerations including natural ventilation and daylighting.
The character of the existing house was intentionally respected and retained from the street elevation with gestures to the new work expressed in the front fence, front awning and material selections. Internally a contemporary, clean aesthetic was achieved through interior design works undertaken in association with Debstudio.
