The logic of simple living.
An original Queenslander style home located north of Brisbane provided the starting point for this project. Poor circulation and spatial planning had create a complex warren of spaces in the existing building and were issues that comprised the liveability of the house.
Re-organising living and deck spaces around a communal kitchen reflect a logic of simple living, where rooms become a destination rather than just a corridor. In transforming the useability of these areas, the home takes on a new life by allowing the owners to easily inhabit spaces themselves, or happily entertain large numbers of guests.
The aesthetic of the additions, whilst being unapologetically contemporary, are respectful of both the scale and detail of the existing building. Raking the ceiling has increased the sense of space while the stained timber plywood feature softens the expanse of space, and gives it a humanscale feel.
