Places within a place for contemplating, entertaining and discovering
The renovation, extension, and folly of this existing house on the canals of Raby Bay seeks to create “places within a place”, reflecting the personality of our client. The creation of a series of spaces within the already well-loved and well-used ‘front’ garden allows for a new dimension of ‘space’ when experiencing the garden- whether it be for contemplation, entertainment, or self-discovery. As such, the core design concept evident within the project is the emphasis on the use of structures with skins that can open, close, change, and reveal their function slowly- thus allowing occupants to experience the garden and spaces within with as much exposure or privacy as they see fit. Thus, the renovation and expansion has the potential to create a thoroughly unique and malleable house that plays with it’s surroundings, making the most of the picturesque site upon which the house is located.
