Connecting 2 homes and creating shared but individual spaces
21 Ludlow Street, fondly known as “Little Ludlow”, seeks to create a new home on an existing block of land that connects to the existing home next door- thus allowing two families to share spaces whilst creating distinct character. As such, a key element of the project brief was on the use of materials and building systems similar to those of the new home next door, to create a sense of familiarity and similarity. Timber slats, and an elongated design all lend to the connection between the two houses, however, the high ceilings and open balconies and outdoor spaces also create a sense of individuality and space on what has the potential to be a confined site and project.
