Kidston House

Living along the Northern edge of a open linear plan.

As a residential project for a builder client this house sought to serve dual purposes both as a family home and as a show piece for their trade. The site in inner city Brisbane is surrounded by five neighbours and so, it was critical that the home be designed to eliminate any privacy issues, whilst also taking advantage of elevated views over the surrounding suburbs.

A long linear plan orientated to the north was engaged to allow sunlight into all living and sleeping spaces during the colder months, while omitting the high angle summer sun from the home during the hotter months. Large openings serve both this climatic objective whilst also connecting the family to their grater landscape.

A simple palette of materials and ease of construction lent to a clean and contemporary aesthetic with timber statement pieces  included for warmth.
