Gunnin House - 2007
We were lucky enough to meet a great couple who presented us with the challenge of creating a new family home for themselves and their 3 kids. We were helped by the fact we were to build this house on a fantastic new block of land in Fig Tree Pocket that backed on to native bushland.
Naturally, this informed the concept from the outset, and through extensive analysis of the local micro-climate and the requirements of the family, we developed a design that both responds to the external environment, and allows the planning of the house to function naturally with the occupants habits.
A 'H' shaped plan was adopted with a double storey Western 'wing' holds sleeping, utility, and kitchen areas, whilst the Eastern 'wing' has a private lounge, study and guest room. We connected these via a 1 1/2 height central informal living zone which connects the entry, internal living and outdoor covered living area.
Passive climate control was a major consideration, so orientation of the various areas, along with multiple airflow paths at various levels which enables the building to 'breath' without the use of mechanical systems.
